We’ve been following this project as the submission posts have grown this year, 2015. These long term projects are natural, “gravitate toward and share”, projects at the LRP office. Now in it’s second year, in an effort to continue a 50 year American Appalachia narrative, Looking at Appalachia is accepting submissions from January 1 – December 31, 2015. The photos are fascinating. An important cross section of contemporary Americana.
This project is designed and directed by Roger May. “In an attempt to explore the diversity of Appalachia and establish a visual counter point, this project will look at Appalachia fifty years after the declaration of the War on Poverty. Drawing from a diverse population of photographers within the region, this new crowdsourced image archive will serve as a reference that is defined by its people as opposed to political legislation” – Looking at Appalachia.
